Our main take aways from the guest lecture with George Scaria, Kerala, India
When George starts speaking, everyone realises that he is a passionate tourism entrepreneur and a person who loves teaching and working with students.
For us India is a country we’ve only read books about, but have never visited before. So for us it was quiet surprising, that India is as bis as the European continent. And because of this large scale, for sure domestic tourism needs to be an important part.
But there are three other topics, that made us think about twice:
First, we really liked the fact, that India has built the first – one and only – Airport in the world, fully operated with Solar Energy.
Second, we loved his presentation about sustainability in Tourism. George explained, that sustainability in Tourism is based on the three P’s: People, Planet and Profit. And this is an approach from which we had not looked at sustainability yet.
The third point, was his topic about caravan tourism. We are both persons who love camping, and we really like going on holiday with a caravan. But I have never thought about the drastic consequences of caravan overtourism before.
