Hong Kongs view to Corona Crisis

Aktualisiert: 13. Nov. 2021

Our main take aways out of the guest lecture with Gerhard Aicher, Hong Kong

„Now I am 17 years in Hong Kong – and I haven’t expected this before.”

This was one of Gerhard Aichers first sentences when he introduced himself to our course. For us it is always very interesting to see, how people from Germany or Austria can move to a new place, far away from home and can built a new home out there. For both of us it is unbelievable to move to a new place, in the expectation to stay there for two or three years, and then, in the end, you stay there – maybe forever.

In his presentation it was really interesting for me to hear how Hong Kong has seen the corona crisis. He explained, that corona has not influenced the main jobs and gdp parts. So Tourism is not as important for Hong Kong as it is in other places. And as a result it was acceptable for them, to leave the frontiers closed for a longer timeperiod.

An other point I really liked from his presentation was the part with the creative ideas to find new customers and to create new packages to handle the empty hotel rooms. I think out of this mindset, we can learn a lot for future crisis.
