Our main take aways out of the guest lecture with Eric Callender, Ecosign, Whistler
Within this gues lecture, we liked the comparison of the ski tourism market in BC, Canada, and China. China is a growing market and a potential big player in the future, depending on what development the ski industry in China takes on.
"When looking at China after the Winter Olympics, we need to ask what will be left in terms of sustainability."
It was interesting to look outside of Europa to get the chance to explore not only BC as a ski tourism market, but also China and get an insight into investment policies, real estate models and how ski resorts operate in each country.
Furthermore, we were able to combine the content from this guest lecture with insights from others. On one hand, we received more detailed information from Markus Schuckert regarding the Chinese guest with relevance to future tourism markets. On the other hand, the Chinese winter guest was also highlighted by Mr. Florian Kahr from the Tirol Tourism Board in the subject Emerging Tourism Markets. He emphasized that the Chinese winter guest will be given more attention in the Tyrolean tourism in the future, which confirms that the market in BC can and should also address the Chinese guest.
